Urgent Medical Care in Russia

What is it?
This is care for sudden, acute conditions or a sharp worsening of chronic diseases that are not immediately life-threatening but require prompt intervention. It is care that you need to prevent your condition from seriously deteriorating.

Examples of situations:
  • Severe pain (e.g., toothache, earache, back pain), but you are conscious
  • High fever
  • Worsening gastritis, allergic reaction (without difficulty breathing)
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Key difference from emergency care: There is no direct threat to life, but you need to see a doctor urgently.

How to get urgent care?

Your first step is to call your insurance company. The phone number is printed on your VHI policy.

Depending on the terms of your policy and the situation, the insurance company can arrange:

A home visit from a doctor
A telemedicine consultation (a video call with a doctor)
A referral to a clinic to see the necessary specialist
Important: Urgent care is provided only if you have a valid VHI policy. The terms for receiving it depend on your specific insurance plan.
Quick guide:
  • Take out your VHI policy and find the call center phone number
  • Call and clearly describe your symptoms
  • Follow the operator's instructions; they will tell you what to do next
Remember
  • Emergency care (life-threatening): Call 103 or 112. Care is available and free for everyone
  • Urgent care (no direct threat to life): Call your insurance company. A VHI policy is required
