Metro

The fastest and most convenient way to get around Moscow.
Schedule
Opens: ~5:30–6:00 AM (depending on the station)
Closes: ~1:00 AM
Pros:
Fast and reliable
Huge network (14 lines, 250+ stations)
Wi-Fi in all carriages
Cons:
Overcrowding during rush hour (8:00–10:00 AM, 4:00–7:00 PM)
Usage Rules:
Payment:
  • Troika Card (electronic card) – the most cost-effective option (a ride costs ~42 rubles).
  • Single-journey tickets (more expensive, ~67 rubles).
  • Contactless payment (Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank cards MIR).
Transfers: Free within 90 minutes.
Security: Baggage screening is in operation at the entrance (can take time during rush hour).

Surface Transport (Buses, Trolleybuses, Trams)

A good alternative to the metro, especially for short distances.
Schedule:
  • Regular routes: ~5:30 AM–1:00 AM
  • Night buses (Letter "N" + number): 1:00 AM–5:30 AM
Usage Rules:
  • Payment: "Troika" card, bank card, or single ticket.
