At the University

What to wear
  • Clothing in business or classic style (shirts, blouses, trousers, knee-length or longer skirts, dresses, suit jackets and blazers)
  • Neat footwear
  • During cold weather – warm clothing also in a classic style
What is not allowed
  • Excessively revealing clothing (sleeveless tops, short shorts, mini-skirts)
  • Sportswear (except for physical education classes)
  • Beach footwear (flip-flops)
  • Clothing with aggressive or offensive prints
Mandatory attire in educational facilities and clinics
  • Medical coat – white, clean and tidy (must be worn in all lecture halls and clinics).
  • Change of shoes – comfortable, closed-toe footwear (sneakers, shoes, trainers). Sandals and flip-flops are not permitted.
Additional requirements for practical training
Depending on the type of class, the following might be required:
  • Medical cap (for work in laboratories, operating rooms
  • Medical mask (when in contact with patients)
  • Surgical scrubs (during surgeries and some practical classes)
What is prohibited?
  • Being anywhere on campus without footwear – even in hot weather.
  • Wearing shorts and swimwear – even if covered by a coat.
  • Bright makeup and strong perfume – this can disturb patients and colleagues.
Why is this important?
  • Hygiene – medical uniform protects you and the patients.
  • Professional image – you are a future doctor, and your appearance should inspire trust.
  • University requirements – non-compliance with the rules may affect your admission to classes.

In Public Places (metro, cafes, shops)

What is appropriate
  • Neat casual clothing (jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts)
  • Closed-toe footwear (sneakers, boots)
What is undesirable
  • Loungewear (pyjamas, stretched-out tracksuits)
  • Excessively tight or transparent clothing
  • Dirty or torn clothing

In Cultural Venues (museums, theatres, churches)

What to wear
  • Classic or smart attire (suit with a shirt, dress, skirt with a blouse)
  • In Orthodox churches – women are advised to wear skirts below the knee and headscarves; men should wear trousers (not shorts). Headwear - unlike for women - must be removed.
What is not allowed
  • Shorts, tank tops, bare shoulders (especially in churches)
  • Bulky or untidy clothing
  • Hats/caps and other headwear indoors, especially for men (except for religious head coverings)

General Tips

Maintain cleanliness and tidiness
this is important in general, and especially for future medical professionals
It's better to look formal at the university
it shows respect for teachers and each other

Follow the dress code – it's part of your professional culture!
