From the University

Student Visa Guide (State-Funded & Contract-Based Studies)

Submitting Documents
  • Get your invitation (PDF sent by email).
  • Print the invitation.
  • Apply at the Russian Consulate specified in your form.

Required documents

International passport (valid at least 1.5 years after your planned entry date).
Copy of passport (main page with personal data).
Invitation to enter Russia (issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation).  Sent electronically to you or via the University — print it out.
Visa application form (fill it online: visa.kdmid.ru).
Two color photos  (3.5 × 4.5 cm, light background, full-face, no dark glasses/headwear — except for national/religious cases).
Parental consent (for minors).
Extra documents (if requested by the Consulate).

Receiving Your Visa

Single-entry student visa (valid for 90 days).

Special Cases (Latvia & Estonia)

Holders of “non-citizen” (Latvia) or “alien” (Estonia) passports are considered stateless persons (Presidential Decree No. 977, 17.06.2008).
They follow the same rules for invitation and visa.

Important to Know

You may enter Russia only from the start date of your visa — check the dates!
Double-check your visa details:
  • Full name & passport number
  • Visa type: “single-entry
  • Purpose: “Study
  • Entry/exit dates

  • After Arrival (within 5 days): 
    • Register for migration accounting
    • Get residential registration
    Visit the University Migration Office right after arrival!
    Please check the requirements 
    at the Russian Embassy in your country.
    Apply for a visa immediately 
    after receiving the invitation.
    In the migration card that you will be given upon arrival at the Russian airport, underline “Study” in the “Purpose of the visit” section.
