Student Visa Processing under the Russian Government Quota

Basis for the Visa
  • Your visa is issued based on a visa directive from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
How to Check if the Visa Directive is Ready?
  • Check your personal account on the Education in Russia portal
  • The directive is usually prepared within 30 days after enrollment in the university.
Steps After Receiving the Notification
  • Book an appointment at the Russian Embassy/Consulate in your country.

Required Documents

Copy of international passport
(main page with personal details).
Admission order from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education
(available in your applicant account on the Education in Russia portal).
Visa directive
– a six-digit number from your account on the portal.
Visa application
form (visa.kdmid.ru).
Two color photos
(3.5 × 4.5 cm, light background, full-face, no dark glasses/headwear, except for religious/national reasons).
Parental consent (for minors).
Additional documents
if requested by the Consulate.

What Will You Receive?

Single-entry student visa valid for 90 days (extended after arrival in Russia).

Special Cases: Latvia & Estonia

According to Presidential Decree No. 977 (June 17, 2008):
Holders of non-citizen passports (Latvia) and alien passports (Estonia) are recognized as stateless persons.
The same rules apply for invitations and visas.

Important Information

Entry to Russia is allowed only from the start date of your visa
– check carefully!
Verify the details in your visa:
  • Full name and passport data
  • Visa type: single-entry
  • Purpose of travel: Study
  • Dates of entry/exit
Within 5 days after arrival, you must:
Immediately after arrival
visit the University Migration Office.
Please check the requirements
at the Russian Embassy in your country.
Apply for a visa immediately
after receiving the invitation.
In the migration card that you will be given upon arrival
at the Russian airport, underline “Study” in the “Purpose of the visit” section
