Issuing a Visa Invitation for Entry into the Russian Federation
Who needs a visa?
- Visa required: foreign citizens, including citizens of Turkmenistan.
- Visa not required: citizens of CIS countries, as well as Abkhazia, Georgia, and South Ossetia.
Where and how to obtain a visa?
- A visa is issued at the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the student’s country of citizenship/residence.
- Basis for the visa: an official invitation.

- University - for other categories of students (with tuition fees or on a general basis)
Required documents for obtaining an invitation
Through the University:
- Scanned copy of the international passport (all pages),
- Educational document (for postgraduate and residency applicants).

- Always check the current requirements on the website of the Russian Embassy in your country.
- Start the visa application process in advance (processing times depend on the country).
Procedure for obtaining an invitation
Complete the application form for an invitation
Prepare scanned copies:
- Main page of the international passport (high-quality image),
- Health insurance valid in the Russian Federation,
- Fingerprinting information notice (read and sign).
Read and sign the memo on fingerprinting and migration registration
Send all documents to invitation@staff.sechenov.ru.
