Mandatory Requirement

Having a medical insurance policy is a mandatory condition for legal stay in Russia

Without a policy:

  • Entry to the Russian Federation is prohibited (Art. 27, Federal Law No. 114)
  • Fine for violation (Art. 18.8, Administrative Code of the Russian Federation)

Rules for Students

Upon arrival in Russia
  • Contact the Institute of International Education
  • Purchase a VHI (Voluntary Health Insurance) policy from an accredited insurance company
After obtaining the policy
  • Inform the Institute of International Education and the Migration Registration Office
  • Provide your policy details
During the entire study period
  • Renew your insurance policy on time
Who Can Obtain a Compulsory Health Insurance (CHI/ОМС) Policy
  • Holders of a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) or Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) — may apply for a CHI policy (free medical care throughout Russia)

Important!
A medical insurance policy confirms your right to stay in the Russian Federation.
Insurance must cover:
  • Emergency medical care
  • Hospitalization
  • Treatment of COVID-19 (if required)
  • Treatment and medical examinations in Sechenov University clinics

Please note the validity period of the medical insurance policy (MHI) before applying for a visa. It should be no more than and not less than 1 year.
