About the Blood Center

The Blood Center was established on the basis of the Interclinical Blood Transfusion Unit and is part of the University's Clinical Center. The Center is headed by Dr. med. habil., Professor Aligeydar Alekperovich Ragimov. His team consists of highly qualified specialists, many of whom hold doctoral or candidate of medical sciences degrees.
The Center's main objective is to ensure continuity at all stages, from blood collection from the donor to the transfusion of blood components to patients in the University's clinics. The Center is equipped with the most modern facilities for blood collection, processing, storage, and testing.

Who Can Become a Donor

Any capable Russian citizen who has reached the age of 18 and has an identity document (passport) can donate blood. Registration in Moscow or the Moscow region is not a mandatory requirement.

Contraindications for Donation

It is important to review the list of contraindications before your visit to donate blood.
Absolute Contraindications (complete deferral from donation):
  • Blood-borne diseases (diseases transmitted through blood), both past and present.
  • Chronic diseases requiring continuous medication.
Temporary Contraindications (deferral for a specific period):
  • Weight less than 50 kg.
  • Past infections (tonsillitis, flu, acute respiratory viral infection) — 1 month after recovery.
  • Medication intake — 3 days after taking analgesics and salicylates.
  • Alcohol consumption — 48 hours after intake.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.
  • Menstruation and 5 days after its end.
  • Surgical operations — 4 months after the procedure.

Preparation for Donation

For a successful donation and to ensure the blood is of high quality, proper preparation is important:
Refrain from consuming alcohol for 48 hours before the procedure.
Do not consume fatty, fried, spicy, or smoked food, as well as dairy products, eggs, and butter for 24 hours.
Be sure to have breakfast on the day of donation. Sweet tea, juice, fruit drink, as well as bread, crackers, boiled cereals or pasta cooked in water without oil are recommended.
